Tough Guy 2011

The organiser of Tough Guy (aka Mr Mouse) has banned general charity fundraising from the event, so we went just for fun this year.

The weather was much kinder than the artic conditions of the previous two years and there was only a thin layer of ice on the water obstacles. It looked like a record time might be on the cards, but then we discovered that Tough Guy had just got even tougher.

There were a couple of new obstacles in the Killing Fields - the Chamber of Horrors is a 100m crawl through the mud in tunnels that are pitch dark, with electric cattle prods hanging from the ceiling. We took our fair share of nasty electric shocks — not just little jolts, but major teeth chattering bolts that are *very* painful. There were lots of very unhappy people in those tunnels — maybe they had the voltage turned up a bit too high? Or maybe not, this is Tough Guy, after all.

They also added another twenty minutes or so at the end, dangling over a lake on monkey bars, just when you might have thought you were close to the finish line (in previous years there was just the barbed wire crawl, tyre walk and a couple of minor hillocks to get over, but not this time!)

Despite all that, we lived to tell the tale and maybe return again. But probably not, unless they stop trying to electrocute us...
