Extreme Running Challenges

Team Ivan raises money for local healthcare/medical charities through the people and organisations who sponsor us to complete extreme running events. Apart from the fund raising, just taking part in these events brings an amazing sense of achievement that benefits every member of our team.

Generally speaking, a running event can be classified as 'extreme' if it is either longer than the marathon distance of 26.2 miles, or includes features that make it a greater test of physical and mental toughness than a normal foot race.

Our first challenge was Tough Guy 2009 — run in the midst of winter, and described as one of the world's toughest one-day endurance events. Following our success there (in the most extreme weather conditions) our next challenge was the Swiss Alpine Marathon, followed by a fully loaded attempt at the Parachute Regiment 10 mile endurance run.

In addition to Tough Guy, members of Team Ivan have in the past completed the Zermatt Marathon, the Thames Path Ultra and various local extreme runs such as the Sodbury Slog, Tough Challenge and Rough 'n' Tumble. We've got our eye on other extreme events both locally and further afield, such as the Ultra-Trail Tour de Mont Blanc.
